The Dialects The recordings delivered in this data set cover a broad set of dialects from UK and Ireland. Participants were asked to self identify which set they felt they belonged to. The dialects represented in the recordings are: * Irish English * Midlands English * Northern English * Scottish English * Southern English * Welsh English The Elicitation Lines Different elicitation scripts were generated for each speaker, however a few sentences were included in all the elicitation scripts. The scripts were crafted for each dialect so that specific linguistic features present in that dialect could be contrasted against other dialects, as well as capturing pronunciation variants of for example place names. Various sources were used for the elicitation scripts. Each line presented in the data set has a LINE_ID which refers to the identifier given to the source line used for the scripts. The LINE_ID can therefore be used to find the same line from different speakers, or different dialects. The sources for the lines are various such as Wikipedia, The Rainbow Passage, lines to perform tasks on a virtual assistant which were edited for length and adding target words for accent elicitation while keeping the content intact.
